Nationwide Bank Strike Announced for September 11; Three-Day Strike to Follow

New Delhi, August 24: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a nationwide bank strike on September 11, demanding the implementation of a five-day work week for bank employees.

According to the union’s announcement, the September 11 strike will be followed by a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to September 30 if the demand remains unresolved.

The UFBU has stated that the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) had reportedly agreed to the proposal for a five-day work week in March 2024. However, the union alleges that the proposal is yet to receive government approval, despite more than two years having passed.

The union has also expressed opposition to the Finance Ministry’s Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. It has warned that if its demands are not addressed, an indefinite hunger strike may begin from October 26.

The proposed strike action could affect banking services across the country, with customers advised to plan their bank-related work in advance.

The announcement was reported on August 24, 2026.
