Redhakhol ; In a major breakthrough against interstate narcotics smuggling, Odisha Police under the jurisdiction of Sambalpur Police successfully intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. NL-01-AE-3008 and a tipper bearing Registration No. OD-15-AE-1710 near Khokhodapal Chowk under Charmal Police Station limits and seized a huge quantity of contraband Ganja along with illegal firearms and ammunition.
Acting on reliable intelligence regarding transportation of contraband substances, a special police team led by Insp Bedaprakash Nanda, IIC, Charmal Police Station, conducted a raid at the spot.
During the operation, one suspect managed to flee from the scene, while the driver of the tipper vehicle was apprehended on the spot. The accused has been identified as:
Jagan Mahakud (22 years) of District Boudh.
A detailed search of the vehicles was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and Scientific Officer following due legal procedure.
During the search, police recovered approximately 260 Kg of contraband Ganja concealed inside specially made secret chambers and bags hidden in the vehicles.
Besides the narcotic seizure, police also recovered:
One illegal firearm
Five rounds of live ammunition
The seized contraband, firearms, ammunition, and vehicles have been taken into custody.
In this connection, Charmal P.S. Case No. 93/2026 has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and Arms Act. Investigation is continuing to ascertain the forward and backward linkages of the interstate smuggling network and to apprehend the absconding accused persons involved in the racket.
Further investigation is underway.
