Gajapati: A giant 20-foot long King Cobra snake, locally called Ahiraj, was rescued from the SSD Higher Secondary School premises in Rayagada block of Gajapati district on Wednesday evening. Members of the Snake Helpline from Chikiti in Ganjam district rescued it.
As per reports, the said snake had been roaming around the school premises for some days and no one could catch it. Yesterday evening, when the snake entered the sixth grade classroom in the school premises, the staff there used their intelligence and closed the classroom door, so that the snake could not get out.
The school authorities immediately informed the Snake Helpline after seeing the snake. The snake remained locked in the classroom for about three hours.
After getting information, two members of the Snake Helpline, Ramachandra Sahu and Jagannath Sahu, came from Ganjam district and rescued the snake. The rescuers put tough effort to catch the huge snake. The snake was caught after about half an hour.
A huge crowd of locals soon gathered in the school premises to witness the 20-foot-long snake, which was heavily hissing while standing almost by it’s tell.
The snake helpline members rescued the deadly snake and later released it at a lonely place to the wild to its natural habitat.
