Bhubaneswar : Heavy rainfall is likely across the state till the 8th. On Monday, there is a possibility of intense rain in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. The Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall at scattered places in North Odisha, Interior Odisha, and South Odisha. In view of the expected heavy rain over the coming week, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted all district collectors and concerned departments.
Not only Odisha, but heavy rainfall is also likely in Chhattisgarh till the 8th, according to the weather department’s forecast. From the 4th to the 8th, widespread heavy rain may occur across Chhattisgarh. Continuous rainfall in the upstream regions may lead to a rise in the water level of the Mahanadi River again. All departments have been instructed to remain alert and make advance preparations.
The monsoon is currently active over the state. By the 7th, there is a possibility of a cyclonic circulation forming over the Bay of Bengal. Heavy rainfall is expected around the 8th and 9th. Rainfall will continue at various places from the 3rd to the 8th due to the active monsoon conditions. On Tuesday, heavy rain is likely in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Koraput. From the 5th to the 8th, several places in North and South Odisha may experience heavy rainfall.
In the last 24 hours, Deogarh recorded the highest rainfall at 44.2 mm. Talcher received 20 mm and Sambalpur recorded 12 mm of rainfall. From June 1 to August 2, the state has received 30% more rainfall than normal. Extremely heavy rainfall has been recorded in Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri. Very heavy rainfall has been recorded in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Koraput. Only Gajapati, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri have recorded deficient rainfall.
