Sonali Mishra appointed as first woman Director General of Railway Protection Force

New Delhi  : In a historic move, Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Sonali Mishra has been appointed as the first female Director General (DG) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The appointment committee of the cabinet has given its official approval for her appointment. She will take over the charge from the current DG Manoj Yadava, who will retire on July 31, 2025.

According to the reports, Sonali Mishra will hold this post until her retirement on October 31, 2026. She is the first woman to lead the Railway Protect Force.

The Railway Protection Force is responsible for ensuring the security of railway property and passenger across the country.

Sonali Mishra is currently posted as the Additional Director General (selection) with Madhya Pradesh police. In July 2021, she made history as the first woman commander to lead a Border Security Force (BSF) formation along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab.

She has also served as Inspector General (IG) of the BSF’s Kashmir formation and has headed the force’s intelligence wing. Additionally, she has worked as the Additional Director General in the BSF.

For her outstanding services, she has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPDMS) and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS).
