Sanjita’s Journey: From Poverty to Power

Rourkela   :      Sanjita Mohapatra was born into a poor family in Rourkela, Odisha. Her mother was disappointed at her birth, hoping for a son after two daughters. Her parents nearly gave her away, but her elder sister’s plea saved her. Growing up, Sanjita faced many challenges—poverty, gender bias, and societal pressure. Yet, she never gave up.

With support from kind teachers, scholarships, and social organizations, she worked hard and earned a degree in mechanical engineering. She joined Rourkela Steel Plant as an Assistant Manager and used her salary to build a home for her family. With a supportive husband and in-laws who believed in her dreams, Sanjita kept pushing forward.

After failing four times, she cleared the tough UPSC exam in 2019 on her fifth try. Today, at 34, Sanjita is the CEO of Amravati Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra.

She works tirelessly to improve health, education, and women’s empowerment through self-help groups, transforming lives and proving that determination can overcome any obstacle.
