Baripada: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed while more than 20 persons sustained injury after a pickup van overturned in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Monday morning.
Five out of them are in critical condition. The accident took place near the Balisulia village under Shuliapada Police Station limits in the district.
All the injured are known to be from Khunta village of Basta police station.
According to information, the pickup van was carrying more than 30 people from Basta area of Balasore district to Mayurbhanj. Most of them were women. All of them had gone to Shuliapada area to pluck sal leaves and were returning home when the accident occurred.
The injured persons were first taken to the nearby Kostha hospital and then shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Baripada after primary treatment.
After getting information, Shuliapada police reached the spot and seized the pickup van and initiated investigation.
After receiving the news of such a tragic incident in his assembly constituency, Urban Development Minister Krishna Chandra Mohapatra and Baripada MLA Prakash Soren reached the hospital. They inquired about the health of the injured persons and also said that arrangements will be made to shift them to SCB Medical College and hospital in Cuttack.
