Nuapada, : The members of Zilla OBC Manch observed a 12-hour bandh in Nuapada district today protesting against the violation of constitutional rights of backward classes by the State Government.
The bandh was observed from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. today.
All the shops and commercial establishments remained closed during the bandh. Besides, vehicles remained off the road. However, all the essential services including medical and health services were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
The Zilla OBC Manch alleged that the State Government has reduced the reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the upcoming Panchayat elections from 27% to 2.8%.
Notably, the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department has published the draft list for reservation of Zilla Parishad president posts for the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) , Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and women in the 30 districts of the State on October 16.
