Angul, : In an unfortunate incident, a woman was killed and her husband sustained critical injuries after an elephant attacked them in the Talcher sub-division of Angul district late last night.
The deceased has been identified as Kanchan Munda.
As per reports, an elephant herd had reached Santhapada village in Talcher in search of food. A tusker among them attacked the couple while they were sleeping at home last night and dragged Kanchan out of the house.
As a result, she sustained critical injuries and died on the spot, while her husband, identified as Mukunda Munda, sustained critical injuries.
Thereafter, the villagers rushed Mukunda to a local hospital for immediate medical treatment.
On learning about the incident, the Talcher Forest Department officials arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter.
