Baripada, : Normal life was hit in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district as the several Tribal Association on Tuesday, observed a 12-hour bandh demanding official recognition of the tribal language and script.
The effect of the bandh was felt in Baripada, Rairangpur, Bisoi, Jashipur and Bahalada localities of the district.
Sources said, the association called the 12-hour bandh call over the demand of regularisation of the teachers to whom the government has appointed since last 15 years. The agitation will continue till fulfillment of the demand, an agitator said.
The tribal language teachers were appointed contractually in the year 2007. While they are yet to be regularised, their salary is not being hiked even. They are getting mere Rs 3200 per month. The government has betrayed the teachers.
Vehicular movement was adversely affected due to the observation of the bandh.
