Malkangiri: The excise officials seized 390 kg of cannabis worth Rs 40 lakh following a series of raids at multiple locations in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
After receiving hints about cannabis smuggling in the district, a special team was constituted following the instructions of the district collector and excise superintendent.
Acting on a tip-off, the team intercepted a person who was moving in a suspicious manner near the Pipalpadar area. During the search, the team found some quantity of ganja in his possession.
The team raided a house and recovered around 330 kg of cannabis.
In another case, while a person was transporting cannabis on a motorcycle, around 30 kg of cannabis was seized near Balimela.
“We have seized around 390 kg of cannabis and its estimated market value is around Rs 40 lakh. We have registered two separate cases and further investigation is underway,” said a senior official of the excise department.
