Bhubaneswar, : Operation White Spider launched in 2021 to check the drug menace in the capital city is no more active!
Commissionerate Police launched the operation ‘White Spider’ in August 2021 to check the drug menace in Bhubaneswar city.
Members of the Special Squad along with the Quick Action Team carried out the operation that resulted in the arrest of 54 peddlers with the seizure of 3.013 kg brown sugar, Rs 5,24,840, eight vehicles 22 mobile phones, and a gun in the first three months by December 1, 2021.
The Commissionerate Police has also launched a dedicated WhatsApp number – 7077798111 seeking public cooperation to share any information they get about drug peddling.
Announcing the operation on August 16 last year, the police had targeted the entire drug trade chain including the suppliers, dealers, and peddlers. The drug peddlers who are supplying huge quantities of brown sugar to various districts via Bhubaneswar and Cuttack after procuring the same from Jaleswar and Balasore were targeted by the police.
However, the operation ‘White Spider’ is no more active to check the drug menace in the city.
Police seized only 1.037 kg of brown sugar during the last eight months – from January 2022 to August 31.
Similarly, police have managed to register only 32 cases of drug peddling with the arrest of 59 persons. Police also seized Rs 4,50,610, 12 vehicles, and 36 mobile phones from their possession.
