Simlipal, : A decomposed carcass of an elephant was found at Bhandardara beat under Nawana range in Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district.
Though the exact cause of the death has not yet been ascertained, the forest department suspected that the elephant might have accidentally fallen from atop a hillock 30 feet high.
The age of the jumbo was about 40 years.
The forest officials have launched an investigation to find out the circumstances under which the jumbo died.
