Balangir, : A 47-year-old man was killed and two others sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a herd of wild elephants at Bhalupali village under Loisinga block of Balangir district on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Gopal Podha, a resident of Bhalupali village.
According to the sources, Gopal and two other farmers went to their paddy field in the morning when they saw a herd of elephants has barged into their paddy field. They tried to escape from the spot but Gopal came under direct attack of the elephant and was trampled to death at the spot.
However, two others managed to escape from the spot even though they sustained critical injuries. The injured persons have been admitted to the nearby hospital for treatment.
On being informed, the Loisinga police and forest officials arrived at the spot and started an investigation.
