Odisha State Bar Council suspends advocate’s license over derogatory posts on social media

Cuttack : The Odisha State Bar Council has suspended advocate Hemanta Kumar Nayak’s license for sharing derogatory posts with obscene language on social media against judicial officers.

As per an order issued by the Odisha State Bar Council, the license of Nayak, a Bhadrak-based advocate, has been suspended U/S-35 (3) (c) of the Advocates Act from practicing as an Advocate for a period of two years.

The Odisha State Bar Council further restrained him from using obscene and derogatory languages and such unbecoming and unprofessional activities.

Nayak used a pseudonym social media account named “Grants Kumar Nayak Canakya” in which he used to make inflammatory posts with abusive language and unverified allegations of corruption against judges of the Bhadrak district court.

“It is hereby informed/notified for information of all concerned that Hemanta Kumar Nayak, Advocate bearing Enrolment No-O-159/1998, Rajualibindha, Po-Rasandanpur, Via-Arnapur, Dist-Bhadrak who was enrolled on 21.02.1998 bearing Enrolment No- O-159/1998 on the rolls of Odisha State Bar Council has been suspended U/S-35 (3) (c) of the Advocates Act from practicing as an Advocate for a period of two years from the date of judgment. He is further restrained from using obscene and derogatory languages and such unbecoming and unprofessional activities, vide order dtd.13.09.2025 passed by the Disciplinary Committee No-III of Odisha State Bar Council in D.C. No-14/2025. Copy of the judgement is enclosed herewith,” read an order issued by the Odisha State Bar Council.
