Bhubaneswar : Around 79 percent voter turnout was recorded after the fourth phase of the Panchayat polls concluded in Odisha, informed State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday.
As per the final figure, 79 percent of 51.31 lakh voters have exercised their franchise in the fourth phase of the poll.
Among all the districts, Sonepur recorded the maximum voter turnout of 86.51 percent. Bargarh stands at second position with 84.87 percent and Nabarangpur at third with 83.3 percent.
Om the other hand, the Ganjam district witnessed the lowest voter turnout of 65.2 percent.
The voting took place at 17,089 polling booths in 1,254 panchayats of 64 blocks across 27 districts on Tuesday. Out of which 2,563 booths were sensitive.
Amid tight security and strict Covid-19 protocols, the polling began at 7 am and continued till 1 pm. As many as 667 candidates were in the fray for 163 Zilla Parishad seats.
To ensure a smooth, fair, and free voting process, a total of 240 platoons of the police force, 1753 mobile patrolling parties along with district police officers were deployed all over the state.
