Odisha Panchayat Polls: 3 arrested for allegedly distributing cash and liquor in Nayagarh

Nayagarh : A day before the second phase of the three-tier Panchayat Election in Odisha, three people have been arrested for allegedly distributing cash and liquor in Nayagarh in return for votes.

Reportedly, the three arrested accused are the candidates of Sarpanch Sushant Kalas, Samiti member candidate Manmath Tripathi, and ward member candidate Nanda Maharana.

These candidates were allegedly distributing money to locals of Mayurjhalia of the district while they were standing near the village entrance to prevent any outsiders from entering the area.

Thereafter when the locals chased them away from the village, they threw a huge amount of cash on the spot and tried to escape. However, the locals held them and handed over them to the Chandpur Police.

The cops have seized two bikes and liquor from their possession. They have been arrested and an investigation has been initiated.

Notably, the second phase of Odisha Panchayat Polls will be held on February 18, 2022.
