Cuttack, : Police on Saturday arrested the nephew of an influential minister of the state government for allegedly thrashing two persons and forcing them to kneel down in Pratap Nagari area of Cuttack city.
The accused has been identified as Amarendra Pratap Swain alias Vicky, an office bearer of BJD youth wing.
As per reports, Vicky’s vehicle met with an accident with a bus near the BJB College in Bhubaneswar following which a heated exchange of words ensued between the helper and manager of the bus.
Later, Vicky allegedly kidnapped the duo in his car and took them to Pratap Nagari area in Cuttack where he along with his associates thrashed them and forced them to sit on kneels.
When some locals intervened and opposed their act, Vicky and his associates also thrashed them. The whole incident was caught in a CCTV camera installed nearby and the footage has gone viral on social media.
One of the locals, identified as Nirmal Kumar Swain, lodged a formal complaint with the Cuttack Sadar Police in this regard. Acting on it, police examined the available CCTV footage and apprehended the accused.
“The bus employees are yet to lodge a formal complaint regarding their alleged kidnap. We are also trying to nab Vicky’s associates,” said a police official.
