Bhubaneswar: Member of Parliament Niranjan Bishi in the Rajyasabha asked about details of the number of seats reserved for SC/ST/OBC in Central Universities that remain vacant and also disbursement of funds of various scholarship schemes for SC, ST, and OBC students.
The Minister for State for Social Justice and Empowerment Sushri Pratima Bhoumik replied that As per the information received from Ministry of Education, the details of the number of seats reserved for SC/ ST/OBC in Central Universities that remain vacant are 2154 posts vacant for General category, 878 posts lying vacant for S.C, 520 posts vacant for ST. 1543 for OBC, 611 Posts vacant for EWS
and 322 posts lying vacant for PWD.as on 03.02.2023. In addition to another question of MP Sri Bishi the Minister replied that the department of Social Justice and Empowerment has been running Centrally Sponsored Schemes for SCs namely Post Matric Scholarships to the students belonging to SC for studies in India. Pre Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC & Others. Both the Schemes are open ended and the scholarships to the eligible SC beneficiaries are released as per the finally verified data received from the State Governments/UTs. The Central share to the beneficiaries is disbursed accordingly as per the scheme guidelines. Further, for OBCS, EBCs and DNTs students,
the department of Social Justice and Empowerment has been running Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC. EBC and DNT students & Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT students. The funds disbursed under these schemes during financial year 2022- 23.Above all, Minister Sushri Bhoumik in her written reply says for STs, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been running Post Matric Scholarship for STS Pre Matric Scholarship ST students studying in Classes IX & X. National Fellowship and Scholarship Scheme for ST students and National Overseas Scholarship for ST students. The funds have also disbursed under these schemes during financial year 2022-23.
