Nuapada: The district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday observed 12-hour bandh in Nuapada over the death case of lady teacher Mamita Meher.
The party has demanded the resignation of the Minister of State (MoS) for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged connection with Govind Sahu, the prime suspect of Mamita Meher murder case. Besides, BJP has also demanded a CBI probe in the matter.
The bandh started at 6 am and will be observed till 6 pm. The effect of the bandh was well marked in several places in the district.
All the local shops and commercial establishments remained closed during the bandh. Besides, vehicles remained off the road. However, all essential services including medical and health services, media, and examinees were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Meanwhile, the local BJP workers picketed at several key points of Nuapada district.
Notably, Mamita Meher, a teacher of Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling of Kalahandi district, was murdered by Govind Sahu. The Prime accused Govind Sahu was sent to jail in this connection
