Kangaroo Court in Nayagarh: Fire, water banned for old couple

Nayagarh : Kangaroo Court has been witnessed in a village of Nayagarh district in Odisha recently in which an old couple has been banned with fire and water. Even the exits of their house have been blocked with thorny branches. The incident took place in the Magarabandha village under Saranakula Police Station limits in the district.

Hemant Pradhan of that village had been fined in the matter of a cashew tree plantation in the village in 2021. A dispute arose in the village regarding this. Accordingly his family was ostracised from the village while fire and water was banned for them.

Hemant filed a complaint at the Sarankul police station a few days ago about this. The villagers got angry with this and planted thorns around his house because he had filed a complaint at the police station. The elderly father and mother have been in detention for three days inside the house.

Even after filing a complaint at the Sarankul police station, police are not paying heed. Nayagarh Sub Collector said that he has instructed the Odgaon Tehsildar to go to the village and investigate the incident. Strict action will be taken against anyone who takes the law into his hands.

Strangely Kangaroo Court is still going on in Nayagarh district. They are imposing punishment without caring about the administration and Court of law.
