Hirakud Dam Sealed for Tourists Amid Rising National Security Concerns

Sambalpur  : Security at the Hirakud Dam has been significantly bolstered as authorities implement precautionary measures to protect this vital infrastructure.

Beginning today, tourists are prohibited from entering the dam premises until further notice.

Authorities have deployed advanced security protocols, including the installation of high-calibre weapons such as Light Machine Guns (LMGs), to ensure thorough surveillance and rapid response capabilities. This action comes amid rising concerns over the safety of key national assets.

Officials from the Sambalpur district administration, in coordination with state and central security agencies, confirmed that the restriction is temporary and will be reviewed periodically. Tourists and local residents have been urged to adhere to the new guidelines for public safety and national security.

The Hirakud Dam, built across the Mahanadi River, plays a crucial role in irrigation, power generation, and flood control. Given its strategic importance, security measures are being reinforced to deter any potential threats.

The administration has not disclosed specific intelligence that prompted the move but emphasised that it aligns with broader national security efforts to safeguard critical infrastructure.

Residents and visitors are requested to cooperate with security forces, follow official advisories, and avoid restricted zones. Officials will provide updates on future developments through government channels.
