Mayurbhanj, : Panic gripped the locals after a herd of 26 elephants damaged several houses and consumed the harvested crops in Karanjia locality of Mayurbhanj district.
According to sources, the herd of 26 elephants barged into the Naibhanga village in Karanjia range in the wee hours of Wednesday and damaged three houses. They have also eaten up the harvested crops stored in the houses.
Earlier on Tuesday, the jumbos had damaged four houses and one vehicle in the Ghagarbeda village.
Villagers are spending sleepless nights with the elephants on rampage to guard their houses and crops.
Being informed, the forest officials arrived at the village and are trying their best to drive away the wild jumbos.
