Cuttack, : Hosting a chicken biryani party on the recent solar eclipse on October 25 has put rationalists in legal trouble.
A handful of nationalists and religious outfits have lodged complaints against them on Friday.
The Nikhila Utkal Prabakta Parishad has filed an FIR against ‘rationalists’, Debendra Sutar and Pratap Rath with Markatnagar Police in the afternoon. The council was also backed by Jai Jagannath Charan Samiti, another religious entity.
According to the nationalists, Sutar and Rath have hurt religious sentiments of Hindus by instigating others to eat non-veg diet during solar eclipse.
Slamming the rationalists, President of the Mutt Temple Servitor Committee, Kameswar Tripathy said, “Abstinence from food during eclipses is our religious practice. We should follow it as a respect and regard to our culture and tradition.
However, Debendra Sutar refuted the allegations. On the otherhand, he said that he has been receiving death threats over phones from unknown callers.
“From safety and security point of view, I have lodged a complaint in this connection at the Markatnagar police station”,Said Sutar.
Meanwhile, Sandipan Mishra, an advocate practising in the Orissa High Court has served a legal notice to rationalist Pratap K Rath, Psychology Professor in Utkal University in connection with the matter. He has sought reply from him as to why legal proceedings should not be initiated for his assumption.
