Jharsuguda, : The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today announced Alaka Mohanty, widow of sitting MLA Kishore Mohanty, as the party’s candidate for the by-election to Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency in Jharsuguda district.
Earlier yesterday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had named former MLA Radharani Panda as the party’s candidate for the by-election.
The Congress party has decided to field former speaker and Minister Kishore Chandra Patel in the by-poll.
Notably, the sad demise of sitting Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Mohanty necessitated the by-poll. The by-elections to the Brajrajnagar Assembly seat will be held on May 31. The counting of votes and declaration of results is scheduled for June 3.
