Bhubaneswar, : Actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty has lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime and Economic Offences police station in Odisha’s Cuttack alleging that some fraudster has created a fake Instagram account by using his name and is asking for donations from his fans.
In the complaint, the Kendrapara MP alleged that the fake account, which has over 1,94,000 followers, is seeking donations from his fans.
Sources said the accused had posted a photo of a girl child claiming that she is suffering from eye cancer and requires a big amount of money for her treatment. He had provided a bank account number in the post and asked for donations for the girl’s treatment.
“It is a matter of grave concern that a fake account on my name has been opened on Instagram which has some 194K followers and has been asking for donations. The fake account has also blocked my own account so that I cannot see any nefarious activities,” Mohanty said in the complaint.
Mohanty added that such fake accounts are on Facebook also and some of his fans and followers have already been cheated.
The Parliamentarian requested the police to block the fake account immediately and take exemplary actions against the fraudsters so that such crimes do not get repeated.
“I request you to take strict action against the wrongdoers and block the account immediately so that fake donation campaigns no longer run. I also request to take some exemplary actions against them so that it isn’t repeated or done by anyone else in future,” he added.
