CBI raids 12 places in Odisha over GDS recruitment fraud

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today conducted simultaneous raid at 12 places in Odisha over the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment fraud case.

Several teams of the central agency are reportedly conducting the raids in 12 different locations in Bhubaneswar, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Balangir.

The CBI officials are said to have seized many vital documents during the searches at the houses and offices of the concerned persons, said sources adding that interrogation of the accused persons also is underway.

It is to be noted here that several candidates had summited forged Class 10 certificates and marksheets during the postal recruitment exam held in 2023 to fill up 1,381 posts of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS).

In course of probe, the CBI team found the involvement of several officers of the postal department and registered a case on May 9, 2023 under IPC sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery), and 471 (using forged document as genuine) read with 511 (attempt to commit offence) of the IPC, and section 7A (bribery) of the Prevention of Corruption Act based on the complaint by the director of postal services, Bhubaneswar.

The probe agency has already filed charge-sheet at the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Bhubaneswar against 58 persons including 55 candidates and 3 middlemen on December 30, 2024.
