Cuttack : A special POCSO Court on Tuesday acquitted two individuals in an alleged case of gang-rape of a minor girl at Gatiroutpatna of Cuttack district.
The Court said that the two accused, Rakesh Rout and Santosh Behera, were acquitted in the case due to the lack of evidence.
However, a lawyer alleged that the police failed to gather enough evidence against the accused.
“A case was presented before the court like fiction by the police and the CWC. The cops could not gather and submit any evidence that would nail the accused in the case. Besides, neither the victim nor did her family lodge an FIR with the police. The CWC member, who had lodged the FIR, also said that he didn’t have any concrete knowledge of the crime,” eminent Orissa High Court lawyer Sapan Kumar Lenka said while speaking on the case.
Notably, in October last year, the girl was kidnapped from OMP square in Cuttack. Acting on a tip-off, the Chauliaganj police rescued the girl. Later she complained that she was gang-raped for several days in a poultry farm.
